expired Optus - $60 100GB / $40 30GB / $50 60GB Unlimited Calls & Text SIM-only Phone Plan (per month)
In the wake of Telstra and Vodafone introducing unlimited data phone plans, Optus has brought back its somewhat ludicrous 100GB for $60 per month SIM-only offer. While 100GB isn't quite unlimited, it's a lot of data.
This offer headlines a double data promotion, which also includes 30GB and 60GB plans, priced at $40 and $50 per month, respectively.
The plans are all sold on 12-month contracts, and also include unlimited talk and text, and an Optus Sport subscription. The plans all include a minimum of 300 international minutes. This promotion will run until May 20.
All three promotional offers are highly competitive, with Optus outclassing a lot of competition. Virgin Mobile does come close however, thanks to a promotion of its own. $40 per month gets you 28GB of data on a 12-month contract. Virgin could be a compelling alternative thanks to features like data rollover and data gifting, but you do miss out on an Optus Sport subscription.
Optus' 100GB plan is quite frankly bonkers, and one the highest inclusion SIM-only plan we've seen to date, excluding "unlimited" plans.
A 100GB phone plan might sound awesome, but it's worth considering if it's right for you. The latest ABS Internet Activity Survey suggested the average Australian is still only using 2.2GB of mobile data per month.
In real world terms, 100GB is equivalent to about 400 hours of Netflix on your phone (at auto quality) on the go, over 600 hours of Spotify, or almost 1,200 hours of scrolling through Facebook. That's a whole lot of internet.
Of course, if you're relying on your mobile phone as a back-up internet connection or you're regularly tethering on the go, Optus' 100GB plan could be a no brainer.
The important thing is to make sure you're purchasing a mobile phone plan that suits your needs - there's no point taking up a massive plan if you're not using what you're paying for. Especially when Optus' $40 and $50 plans still have large amounts of data.
